Fly me to the moon
And let me play among the stars
Let me see what Spring is like
On Jupiter and Mars
In other words, hold my hand!
In other words, darling, kiss me Fill my heart with song
And let me sing forevermore
You are all I long for
All I worship and adore
In other words, please be true!
In other words, I love you!
I discovered Alma as a child at Christmas after my Mum had given me a CD called Merry Christmas Children Everywhere. Songs included on the CD by Alma were Never Do A Tango With An Eskimo & Christmas Cards. These were her only songs I had known for many years until last year I got really into old music from the 40s and 50s, and already have a few of Alma's CD's and a couple of her 78s!
In a Daily Mail interview, Alma Cogan's sister Sandra, who was briefly linked to McCartney, claimed that Cogan had a serious romance with Lennon that had to be kept secret because of her family's strict Jewish faith. Her last romance was with Brian Morris, who shared her faith. They were engaged to be married.
I remember her singing in radio shows and on stage. An under rated singer. I miss the singing of that era, clear diction, you didn't have to guess what the hell the lyrics were all about. No auto tune, little in the way of gimmicks, they had to be able really sing.
