I still recall the first time I heard this tune - in my piano teacher's tiny studio.  From that point on, my relationship with music would forever be different.

I love the little single note intro right at the beginning. It sounds nautical - like a call to the crew to come to the bridge!

Johnny Mandel knew Bill at least to some degree. Never said any words other than praise about Bill, as far as I know.Kind of like "damning with faint praise" though. I wish I could learn more about their interaction. Bill recorded many of Johnny's tunes.
