Old Bill was on the right track when he completely changed musical direction and realised making old music for squares wasn't the way forward.
This and his music a few years later were like chalk and cheese, he'd have missed the boat completely if he'd carried on recording this country hick music for another 3 year's.
This sounds like some thing a teenagers parents of the mid to late 50s were listening to
Another fine of example why Bill Haley is truly the "Father of Rock".
It is unreal to me that this Guy didn't get the recognition he deserves.
For the most part he is largely forgotten and/or overlooked even though loyal fans know the following:
- He recorded one the biggest selling records of all time.
- Formed the first Rock & Roll band.
- First Rock and Roll Act to Tour the World.
- Had six top twenty hit's before Elvis had his first.
That's just of few of his accomplishments.
This influenced Moon Mullican's "Rocket to the moon" from 1953 I'd say. Mullican was an idol and friend of Haley and he returned the favour by basing his 1953 song on this.
Weren't these London (UK) issues put out in Britain to capitalize on the
success of the Haley recordings made for US Decca? Some of the early
US pressings on Essex were labeled "Bill Haley and the Saddlemen"
It sounded wilder for the time he recorded. Love the playing of Marshall Lytle. It shows you the way rock'n'roll was cookin'. Thanks for post it. Greatings from Spain.
Arguably his best disc. Rhythm, musical expertise, excellent material, presented with a good dollop of panache. Brilliant. Takes me back fifty years. If only.
Thank you.
