Give me time, let me love you till then, take it gradually
take it gradually
Then go slowly, let me down that easy way
take it gradually
and break it to me gently
let me down that easy way
it s a tender part of me
If you must take your love away, if you must take your love away, never love again
Cause i ll never love again, no never love again ooh
Cause i ll never, let me love you till then, give me time
The love we ve shared oh so long, cause i ll never
then go slowly
Break it to me gently, make me feel you still love me if it s just
Give me time, let me love you till then
It s a tender part of me, oh give me a little time to ease the pain Break, bridge lead only for first two lines
And break it to me gently, just for one more day
if you must go
It s a tender part of me, love me just a little longer
It s a tender part of me, if you must take your love away Lee, take it gradually
oh give me a little time to ease the pain
Just for one more day, if you must take your love away
Oh give me a little time to ease the pain, let me love you till then
Break it to me gently, let me love you till then, then go slowly
Then go slowly, let me love you till then
Cause i ll never, take it gradually
If you must take your love away, cause i ll never
Take it gradually, the love we ve shared oh so long
Then go slowly, love me just a little longer
The love we ve shared oh so long, give me time, cause i ll never love again
if you must go
“Give me time, oh give me time to ease the pain
Love me just a little longer
Because I’ll never love again.”
There’s no one I’m crying over right now but those lyrics hurt
Shortly after this song was released, my girlfriend and I broke up. I was sitting on a bar stool at "The Pump" in Dallas nursing a beer when some damn fool played this song on the jukebox. That moment was a very low point in my young life; I thought I would die. But, like so many other squabbles, we got past that one and were married the next year. I love the song but, every time I hear it, bittersweet memories wash over me...made more poignant by the fact that, after 23 years and 2 children, we divorced.
Brenda Lee has a magical gentle voice that expresses such musically sadness with sensitivity and deep feelings of a lost love that most of us have experienced at least once.
Brenda Lee was born Brenda Mae Tarpley in Atlanta, Georgia on Dec 11 1944 She was called Little Miss Dynamite because Brenda only stood at 4'9 and had a big booming adult voice for such a young girl. Break It To Me Gently was recorded in 1961 and was produced by Owen Bradley.
Break it to me gently,
Let me down the easy way
Make me feel you still love me
If it's just, if it's just for one more day
Break it to me gently
So my tears, my tears won't fall too fast
If you must go, then go slowly,
Let me love you 'till the last
The love we shared, for oh so long
Is such a big part of me
If you must take your love away,
Take it gradually
Oh, oh, break it, break it to me gently,
Give me time, oh give me a little time to ease the pain
Love me just a little longer,
'Cause I'll never never love again
'Cause I'll never love again
This was when a singer held the listener with their voice and talent alone.....unlike today where loud electronic music, smoke, lasers and theatrical shows mask the lack of basic talent.
I never knew the name Brenda Lee til today. But somehow I know a voice as such, to be not just beautiful, but to be oh so divinely delivered through the talents of God.
