i ll never forget those aimless years
i never knew that i would find
but as you see i still stand tall
I m a street player, and i ll play you a song, and i ll play you a song
I never knew that i would find, trouble was often in the air, i m a street player
I m a street player, street corners and billiard halls was our home away Street, a musical path for all to see
a musical path for all to see
it was such a small space in time
Cause you know, anxiety into ecstasy
Trouble was often in the air, it was such a small space in time Street, trouble was often in the air
so we fought to forget our despair
I ve seen it all, thieves and many a brawl Street, my heart soul
anxiety into ecstasy
Carry on carry on carry on carry on city life s the only way, i m a street player, but as you see i still stand tall
i m a street player
it was such a small space in time
But as you see i still stand tall, i m a street player, and i ll play you a song
my heart soul
i m a street player
So we fought to forget our despair, and i ll play you a song, thieves and many a brawl
The genius that is Chicago. They could play straight rock, jazz, pop, the 80's ballads and make it work. These guys really don't get the recognition they deserve compared to some of their contemporaries like Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, and Steely Dan. I love all those bands, but Chicago? Damn, they could take a disco arrangement like this and own it with those horns, percussion, bass line, and Cetera's vocals. And this was after losing Kath. There are very few Chicago songs I will skip over to hear the next.
90% of critics are always a step behind what is going on in my music or in any other art form. It is just silly to dismiss a genre , Disco had some fantastic songs. This is one of them.
This song being was bashed by critics at the time. They totally missed the point of this great song. Fantastic horn arrangement, great groove and Cetera singing better than ever. Awesome stuff
The samples from this masterpiece house heads cherish and know well, but you almost forget how dope this full version is - when I stumbled upon it a few minutes ago, I almost jumped out the window of the Brooklyn bus I was on filled with overwhelming urge to layer Fulton Street with talcum powder so that I could go in . . . .
never forget those aimless years
Street sounds swirling through my mind
Trouble was often in the air
So we fought to forget our despair
I'm a street player
And I'll play you a song
'Cause you know, my heart & soul
Will carry, carry on
Carry on
Carry on
Carry on
City life's the only way
Street corners and billiard halls was our home away
Lessons learned still help me today
I'm a street player
I've seen it all
Hit men, thieves and many a brawl
But as you see I still stand tall
It was such a small space in time
I never knew that I would find
A musical path for all to see
Anxiety into ecstasy
I'm a street player
I'm a street player
I'm a street player
I'm a street player
I'm a street player
I've seen it all
Hit men, thieves and many a brawl
But as you see I still stand tall
It was such a small space in time
I never knew that I would find
A musical path for all to see
Anxiety into ecstasy
I'm a street player
I'm a street player
I'm a street player
I'm a street player
