I just found a new respect for Pepe Romero. I never heard much of his stuff, I was always a fan of his brother Angel Romero. What an incredible family and bravo Pepe, absolutely incredible I am speechless!!!
Just noticed something, is Francisco smoking a cigarette in the picture in the video? Ripping on a classical guitar and smoking a square. As the youth say, Fransisco is going hard in the paint!
Fantastic performance, one of my favourite Tárrega interpretations I've heard of any piece. Interpreters such as David Russell have amazing attention to detail but I always felt he (and many others) confine the emotions of the pieces too much, making it a bit monotone compared to how I feel a piece like this should be performed. You can listen to Russell's interpretation of "Varaciones sobe "El Carnaval de Venecia"" (the most viewed video of the piece) to see what I mean by the lack of emphasis on emotions holding back the performances. Romero is not afraid of power and fierceness, which I love and which feels appropiate for Tárrega.
