I absolutely hate that Amazon is using this for their Holiday commercials. I mute it when it comes on, they ruined a great original, even the Blues Brothers remake.
Only hope they are paying the Burke family for using it...but who knows. Amazon doesn't even pay taxes.
Part Wilson Pickett, part Smokey Robinson, and all PREACHER (which is what he went back to doing when the hits ended).
How hip of Belushi and Ackroyd to make this tune the musical lynch-pin of "The Blues Brothers."
I remember when The Blues Brother sung this song; that is the first time I heard it; but when I came across this song in England around 1997, the other version was kicked to the serious curb. RIP Solomon Burke.
Elwood: We're so glad to see so many of you lovely people here tonight. And we would especially like to welcome all the representatives of Illinois's law enforcement community that have chosen to join us here in the Palace Hotel Ballroom at this time. We certainly hope you all enjoy the show. And remember, people, that no matter who you are and what you do to live, thrive and survive, there're still some things that makes us all the same. You. Me. Them. Everybody. Everybody.
Solomon Burke took Rhythm and Blues to Church one day in 1962 and out came "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love" one of the greatest Soul records ever made. Lest we forget, he was not called the "Wonder Boy Preacher" for nothing. He uses it to heart wrenching perfection to "Save the whole world." And he does, trust me.
