YESSS! This! This is the original that I fell in love with so many years ago. Love James Brown's cover, but this original is my favorite version of the song. The guitarist on here is absolutely killin' it!
This group's vocals were great, really go's without saying, however the guitar work (Lowman Pauling) along with the Sax (unknown) and (unknown) Bass is just so sweet.
My dad did his thing on this song. He was a great writer and guitar player. Had a ball at the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. I invite you to like the 5 Royale page. Has a lot of history, pics and songs.
The secret's out. These guys are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They had been quietly changing the course of R&B (setting the precedence for Soul music) and of Rock and Roll guitar playing since "Baby, Don't Do It" in 1953. This is the original classic raw materials James Brown used to make the first Funk single. That is the considerable effect this group has had on everyone who made hits out of landmark sides like this.
Lowman's brother Clarence would eventually shorten his name from Pauling to Paul .. would join Motown .. and become Stevvie Wonderf's writer, producer and mentor ..
