Those angelic voices, blended with the beautiful strings - perfect orchestration that never fails to move my soul and take me back to a specific time and place.
Rock 'n' Roll's very first "girl group." EVERYBODY looked up to the Chantels and yet you'll never hear them on today's terrestrial radio. What a pity. Brilliant, soulful stuff that raises the hair on the back of your arm.
This music makes me think of all my loved ones as they were in the early 1960's when I was just a little one. Most of them are gone now, but I can come here and have sweet memories.
When people in my age group (Under 40) think of Iconic/Legendary female groups, we tend to think of "The Supremes" and then "Martha & The Vandellas" or "The Marvelettes".... But I think we need to reintroduce groups like: THE CHANTELS, THE SHIRELLES and THE CHIFFONS.... because these BEAUTIFUL BLACK WOMEN truly paved the way for the later female supergroups to come through.....
These girls in 1958 gave us Maybe. Every Night I Pray, and this gem Makes them best of the best of all the girl groups in my book Magic in these tunes, TONS of it.
Maybe I'm looking at the world thru rose colored glasses but I think we were really close to all those problems going away. We listened to the same music, we played sports and went to dances and concerts together. Then we worked together. I wouldn't trade pushing 80 for living any other time in history.
