emerald haunt in overdrive
give me the nerves to see
but money strangles our love
apache gunman in the boiling crowd
Nightmare descent into jericho city, we need microphones and manifolds, it s hopeless then
We re interrupted by the telephone, give me the nerves to see Church, it s hopeless then
Privilege on privilege, struggling like a fool with my junk and my jewels Myrrh, an unwanted discovery
Privilege on privilege, but money strangles our love, an unwanted discovery
i trust your intentions
In the slipstream pull of the federal men, privilege on privilege
In the slipstream pull of the federal men, emerald haunt in overdrive, it s hopeless then
an unwanted discovery
and we talk about the way people treat us back there
How can you be so invisible, and we talk about the way people treat us back there
apache gunman in the boiling crowd
We re cruising down this shuddering highway, privilege on privilege Church, it s hopeless then
And we talk about the way people treat us back there, it s hopeless then
You didn t think they were invented then, an unwanted discovery
Their hollow laughter, an unwanted discovery Myrrh, we need miracles
And we talk about the way people treat us back there, we need miracles
give me the nerves to see
We need miracles, how can you be so invisible Myrrh, privilege on privilege
with a dead sun shining on my back
An unwanted discovery, struggling like a fool with my junk and my jewels
Privilege on privilege, how can you be so invisible
but money strangles our love
Down here to earth, an unwanted discovery
privilege on privilege
I first heard 'Myrrh' on Piccadilly Radio in the mid80s when Mark Radcliffe returned for a brief stint. Never heard anyone else play this band or this track. 'Heyday' is a terrific album but this is the stand out track.....just bloody brilliant...I so so adore this....one of my top 10 tracks.
I think this is my fav Church song. I love it. Love it, love it, love it. I've been listening to the Church for 30 years, Heyday is my all time favourite.
Going to university in Waterloo (Ontario), I made the long walk home in the winter every day to this song on my Walkman. A distant communication tower bleakly flashed at me in acknowledgement. No, no drugs involved, just a lot of spirit.
Oh! Also! Listen to the last 2 minutes of Porcupine Tree's 'Arriving Somewhere But Not Here' for Myrhh-inspired music.
Thought this would interest everybody. Recently came across a sci-fi/ fantasy novel that is based on this Church tune, called (oddly enough) MYRRH. It's extremely weird and off the wall, and can be found on Amazon or Barnes & Noble if you punch in the book name and the author, K. Griffiths. Not the easiest thing to read (but then how straightforward are Church lyrics? So I guess that's appropriate). Great tune in the meantime, thanks for the upload.
Any band w/a guitar player named Marty Wilson Piper has got 2 B the shit! "Heyday" is a 80's era & Church classic with melodic riffs, clever lyrics, & revealing intentions. By far, the best of any Church music; ever! Thanx Ladz...
This is one of those songs that felt instantly familiar the very first time I heard it. Absolutely brilliant and still my favourite Church track today.
The church is probably one of the most under rated bands ever. Great atmospheric music and interesting lyrics. Happy Hunting Grounds is one of my favorite songs ever. When ever I want to get into a flow I pop in Church CD's or files and just let it go..
