im basque and i would like to know the lyrics please!!! I love the irish/gaeilge language. long live Éire and hope you will get the unification of your whole island
I looked up the English translation:
Hail, oh woman, who was so afflicted,
It was our ruin that you were in chains,
Our fine land in the possession of thieves...
While you were sold to the foreigners!
Chorus:
Oh-ro, welcome home
Oh-ro, welcome home
Oh-ro, welcome home
Now that summer's coming!
Grace O'Malley is coming over the sea,
Armed warriors as her guard,
Only Gaels are they, not French nor Spanish...
and they will rout the foreigners!
Chorus
May it please the King of Prodigy that we might see,
Although we may live but one week after,
Gráinne Mhaol and a thousand warriors...
Dispersing the foreigners!
I know I don't have much room to speak, being 4th generation Irish American. But, I agree. The Celtic language needs to be preserved. Its been destroyed by empires for centuries, hell Irish was almost eradicated before the uprising. We here in the states call it the tongue, because back when our families were exiled. It was illegal to even speak Irish. Now 4 generations later, I'm trying to learn the very language of my ancestors.
Just done a DNA test and found some Irish DNA (I'm Spanish so I was surprised) after digging for more information about this irish ancestor I've found out that he was one of the wild geese.
I feel the irish struggle a lot closer now
I'm Dutch, but love this tune.
And after my son listened to this (''Damn dad, that's a nice song.'') he made a translation in Saxony Dutch to sing with his mates at the banger races;'' Oh goan mit dat old kawalje, oh goan mit dat old kawalje. oh goan mit dat old kawalje; wij goat d'r met an `t jaag'n.''
