I saw the Trio at the University of Texas in 1966 and they absolutely killed! Thanks for posting one of their best!

I'm 72 so that being said, If not the absolute first, this may have been one of the first that we were exposed to/of any form of cussing and its controversy in any media. I heard this one on radio and it was slightly strange to note the dead air where that word should have been in that recording. In a Disney film, I had a slight shock in hearing the "D" word In the movie "Black Hole" starring Ernest Borgnine. Another one as is noted elsewhere, another controversy was Clark Gable using the "D" word in the movie "Gone With the Wind".

wow this song takes me back to January of l963. I'd just gotten my drivers' license and this song was on the car radio like every 5 minutes!  the radio version edited out the word 'damn' though.

My friends and I would listen to this song about 10 years ago when I was a senior in highschool. We'd turn all the lights off and we'd be stationary until the chorus. We'd have it on so loud then when they'd say "And I don't give a damn about a green back dollar" it would explode out of the speakers and we'd jump and freak out and break shit in the dark. One of the best times of my life.

I love this song, it sounded really excellent when I heard it during the credits roll of the movie "Thank You For Smoking." I admit I must chuckle at some of these comments about how the word "damn" used to be censored, back in the day. lol I mean, for comparison, just listen to how much cussin' you hear nowadays in movies and such. lol

I grew up listening to the KT and I still enjoy them. I don't care if the music is "old". Some things are timeless.

The great Hoyt Axton wrote this song and so many other great ones. In addition he was one hell of an artist and entertainer, gone too soon. This song will alway be on fo my favorites by the KT.

As somebody pointed out, when this song came out they couldn't say "damn" on the radio, so when the chorus came up, the word was replaced with a guitar strum.   I think the LP had the forbidden word, but not the 45 they played on the radio.

My favorite Kingston Trio song...and an argument could be made for the first ever true punk song! Listen to that opening riff!! In 1958!!! Get outta here!! I bet that was super heavy for the time, if they even knew what heavy was! "I'm just a natural born travellin' man doin what I think I should." "For a wailing song and a good guitar, the only things that I understand.'" AMeN BrUtha! TrUe FuCKin GriT!
