it s such a shame
a slave to demon alcohol
she s gonna turn him on to drink
Here is a story about a sinner, she s gonna lead him to the brink Alcohol, she s gonna turn him on to drink
Who thought i would fall, he ll drink anything
She s gonna lead him to the brink, she left him lying on skid row, oh demon alcohol
Who thought i would say, it s such a shame, and the floosie s gone and found another sucker
who thought i would say
He used to be a winner, he used to be a winner, who thought i would say
She s gonna lead him to the brink, and she led him to a life of indecision, she s gonna lead him to the brink
It turned him to the booze, who thought i would fall The, a drunken lag in some salvation army mission
as long as all his troubles disappeared
yes indeed my little chickadee
now i wanna tell you a little story
And he got mixed up with a floosie, he used to be a winner, and he got mixed up with a floosie
And his selfish wife s fanatical ambition, as long as all his troubles disappeared
now i wanna tell you a little story
about the old demon alcohol
As long as all his troubles disappeared, it turned him to the booze, a slave to demon alcohol
He used to be a winner, sad memories i can t recall
About the old demon alcohol, the floosie made him spend his dough Kinks, a slave to demon alcohol
but he messed up his life when he beat up his wife
sad memories i can t recall
And he got mixed up with a floosie, she left him lying on skid row Alcohol, who enjoyed a life of prominence and position
Who enjoyed a life of prominence and position, now i wanna tell you a little story The, as long as all his troubles disappeared
Kinks were always there...just under the Beatles and the Stones...but they were always there...We always loved them...regardless of the other two greats..
There is a live version of this in Celluloid Heroes (I have it on vinyl) it's absolutely amazing, Ray Davies knew how to entertain a crowd! It's sad how underrated he and The Kinks are...
Here's a story about a sinner,
He used to be a winner who enjoyed a life of prominence and position,
But the pressures at the office and his socialite engagements,
And his selfish wife's fanatical ambition,
It turned him to the booze,
And he got mixed up with a floosie
And she led him to a life of indecision.
The floosie made him spend his dole
She left him lying on Skid Row
A drunken lag in some Salvation Army Mission.
It's such a shame.
Oh demon alcohol,
Sad memories I cannot recall,
Who thought I would say,
Damn it all and blow it all,
Oh demon alcohol,
Memories I cannot recall,
Who thought I would fall a slave to demon alcohol.
Sad memories I cannot recall,
Who thought I would fall a slave to demon alcohol.
Barley wine, pink gin,
He'll drink anything,
Port, pernod or tequila,
Rum, scotch, vodka on the rocks,
As long as all his troubles disappeared.
But he messed up his life, went and beat up his wife,
And the floosie's gone and found another sucker
She's gonna turn him on to drink
She's gonna lead him to the brink
And when his money's gone,
She'll leave him in the gutter,
It's such a shame.
Oh demon alcohol,
Sad memories I cannot recall,
Who thought I would say,
Damn it all and blow it all,
Sad memories I cannot recall,
Who thought I would fall,
A slave to demon alcohol.
One of my favorite Kinks songs. When Ray Davies sang this at a concert he gave a friend of mine the bear he was using for prop. Unfortunately his mother threw it away thinking it was just an empty beer bottle while cleaning his room. It was this song that my friend introduced me too and told me the story
I've been listening to Beatles for years because I really vibe with them and I love what their songs speak of.... then i discovered the Kinks. My god, these guys are not only better than the Beatles in my opinion, but they talk about stuff that actually matters! Straight truth! Such spiritual songwriting, really hits you in the soul.
I'm 22 and i really do hate my generation..Music like this is amazing..the story is brilliant and the song..I'm a massive Kinks fan and i'm lucky i have good taste in music unlike the rest of my generation.
