I'd fix my transistor radio to my Schwinn Varsity and with my saddle bags full of newspapers, I'd begin my paper route. I'd turn up the sound when the Vogues came on. The awful sound quality didn't matter. Oh, the joy of being a kid in the 60s.
In my opinion, "You're the One" & "Five O'Clock World" are the VOGUES' foray into the genre of rock-and -roll. Also, they were
exceptionally good singing those wonderfully melodic, sentimental tunes.
From Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania...derived their name from the old Vogue Terrace in North Versailles, destroyed by a fire in the 60s....I attended a couple of High School Proms there....
I am was in 1964 .. My mom always play this 45 record and record player And today I look back and said thank god I enjoy this music today. and my mom still a live .
Petula Clark wrote the music and Tony Hatch wrote the words...although a hit for her in the UK she was happy to let the Vogues have a hit with their version in the U.S without putting hers out as single there
The Vogues were simply sublime and IMHO far more worthy of induction into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame than some of the bands who are already in there.
This song takes me back to my childhood. Lol, I listened to the "oldies" a lot when I was growing up, so I naturally have an inclination to these songs.
