One of the prettiest songs Monk has put out! Should be played more on these so called radio jazz stations! Thelonious Monk is one of the greatest jazz men of all time!!!!
ben riley nice brush work! he’s alternating between 3/4 and 4/4 time a lot right? any musicians out there?? what is going on in this tune. beautiful rhythm changes.
oh yeah and great album cover, hahah the tied up German SS Officer.
One of the few times Monk played in waltz time, the other was on a Blue Note date a tune called Carolina Mooon. In my opinion their is nothing Ugly about it a very pretty and seldom played composition.Love the way the great Charlie Rouse plays in the upper register on his horn.Nice solo by Eric Gales on bass.Out chorus Monk and and Charlie sound in perfect unison
12 am, this song permeates through the core of my New York apt. My neighbors normally warn of music being too strong or resilient to their walls. Yet, when I play this, I play him...I get nothing but the utter beauty of silence and unwavering approval.
