I grew up on 178th Street and Hughes Ave in the Bronx back in the late 60's and early 70's. This was the music on the street and though I am a gringo I loved anything from Tito Puente, Hector Lavoe, Johnny Pacheco, etc., etc. Puente's Oye Como Va is like an anthem from that era. Santana did a good version but no one will ever do it good as Tito did.
Years ago, in NYC at the Palladium, Thursday night was Latin night. Sometimes Tito Puente would play. The Puerto Rican girls would come down from Spanish Harlem and, maaaaaan, we little Irish boys from the West side would just dance our butts off with them. Lots of memories. Thank you for posting this.
