This was perhaps Manfred's favourite tune. I worked with him in the N.D.R. Studio Orchestra in the 1980's - he was truly my idol. I spoke with his widow Karen shortly after he passed and she informed me that this recording was playing in the room at the time of his passing away - the last song he heard in fact ! It's tune that I performed regularly with my British orchestra when we presented the Bert Kaempfert Tribute Gala Concerts during the 1980's and later again, in 2012. Just beautiful ! Thanks for this reminder Russ.
Blue Midnight is a great song that should have had air time, especially the ending. Just love the bounce in the music. Having played trumpet so many years ago, I used to play this and many other of Bert's music. That bass player was a busy man. Love the song, love the man, sorry he left us so long ago. Never got his due, as far as I am concerned...... g
According to Kaempfert's interview on the Live in London Royal Albert Hall on this song. He did receive royalties from the movie, Midnight Blues, which this song was in.
