When I was 15, my Dad introduced me to "Love Will Come Someday", and I've been hooked on David Sanborn's music since. Carly's Song is especially lovely to me as it brings back some special, personal memories. He is sheer talent !
The way he plays is like a touch from God. Daivd has always played his sax as if he was playing in a dark corner of the room. This was my very first jazz album and I'm glad it was...
I got this album back in 1980. I was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, Camp Courtney. David Sanborn is a unsung giant in music. He was a major player in the formation of 'Smooth Jazz' but it's as if time has forgotten him. There are a lot of musicians that copied his sound but they are ALL just cheap imitations.
My very first introduction to smooth jazz was through this very beautiful and heartfelt song. I have David Sanborn to thank for that. Thank God for allowing him to grace our lives with his wonderful saxophone.
I listened carlys' song in 79 my first wife lisa and I spent many a lazy afternoon enjoying this music. it brings back some beautiful moments we saw him at the greek theater berkeley and lisa told me how much she loved me. RIP ANGEL EYES
This will forever remain my all-time favorite David Sanborn piece. I was 19, in the Air Force and stationed at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX when I first heard Carly's Song in March 1980. I still have the album I bought in '80 which Sanborn signed after his show at Yoshi's in Oakland, CA in November 2012. At the show's meet-n-greet, I told David this was the one song I wanted to hear him play live. I was surprised to hear him say he's never played Carly's Song live at any of his shows. David's very personable, gracious and easy to talk to. I squealed like a 14 year old girl when as I was leaving the table he was sitting behind greeting fans, I reached out to shake his hand and he shook it, then turn my hand around and like the gentleman he is, kissed the back of my hand.
