R. and H. in Chopin? They are great as pianists but never a reference for Chopin. They are both, in a different way, too superficial in approach excessively "public performance" oriented. R. or H. was unable to play op. 58 or op. 11. They can do that but the exigences of these works was not a interesting Everest for they carreer. I defend not Lipatti but a legion of careful chopin's defenders. The "true" tradition was lost and Lipatti was a reformer but in a profound and quality manner.

Lipatti aces the contrast between legato and staccato phrasing, both rendered perfectly, to create two complementary renditions of the main theme. He indeed does it better than anyone.

Even in the fortes obtain a colourful tone!!! His sound is just miraclous...

This is my favorite Chopin piece. This Lipatti version is to me, the best...he was a perfectionist.

Had he not died so young he would have been remembered as the unquestioned king of the piano. His interpretations are always so pure and straightforward. And his skill is impeccable!
