This song taught me tagalog. I used to hear it multiple times a day at Louis Vuitton where I worked. It's a rare treasure, and I never get tired of hearing it.
Surprisingly, Miss Kitt's version has more WARAY-WARAY oomph, swag, and attitude.
The original by Sylvia Torre is a bit sweet version.
I like Miss Kitt's better.
THIS WAS SUNG SO BRILLIANTLY. You won't even trace an American accent in her pronunciation! If I did not know any better, I would have thought this was sung by a Filipino.
This is my first time hearing this! Probably one of the most gleeful jazz pieces. Coming from a Waraynon. Taga Palo, Leyte ako ngan marisyo ini pamation, especially coming from a foreigner.
What a wonderful rendition of a Filipino folk favorite. It's a pity Eartha Kitt is no longer with us. But it's great that we have her performances like this one-- a true piece of entertainment and art.
