Oh, my pa-pa, to me he was so wonderful
Oh, my pa-pa, to me he was so good
No one could be, so gentle and so lovable
Oh, my pa-pa, he always understood.
Gone are the days when he could take me on his knee
And with a smile he’d change my tears to laughter
Oh, my pa-pa, so funny, so adorable
Always the clown so funny in his way
Oh, my pa-pa, to me he was so wonderful
Deep in my heart I miss him so today
My father passed away yesterday and Eddie Fisher was his idol. Dad Mum and I went to see Edddie at the Tweed Heads Bowling Club back in the 80s he was awesome. I am 52 and I loved Eddie so I have chosen Oh My Papa and I don't hurt Anymore to be played during his photos display at the funeral..Love you Dad xxxx
I was a young Marine stationed in Japan when Oh, My Papa came out. Although the Korean War had ended due to a truce less than a year earlier, things throughout the Far East were pretty dicey; we constantly remained in a combat readiness mode. This song was a heart-breeker to me; I loved it dearly, but damn! I was ever so homesick listening to it. The moral to this story is to keep our troops who are serving away from home in a foreign country in your thoughts and prayers all the time. If you can, send them emails, cards, gifts, anything that lets them know folks back home are thinking of them.
Oh, my Papa, to me he was so wonderful
Oh, my Papa, to me he was so good
No one could be so gentle and so lovable
Oh, my Papa, he always understood
Gone are the days
When he would take me on his knee
And with a smile
He changed my tears to laughter
Oh, my Papa, so funny, so adorable
Always the clown, I love him so today
Gone are the days
When he would take me on his knee
And with a smile
He changed my tears to laughter
Oh, my Papa, so funny, so adorable
Deep in my heart I love him so today
Oh, my Papa, oh, my Papa
Hope my son would think of me like this. When my dad die I couldn't shed a tear. I always told my son I love him and his family. I believe I'm the richest man in the world having a son like mine.
My Papa loves this song so much, when he was in the navy. He sang to me when I was very young. Time passes and he has left too. Recently, I asked my son to look out for the song and he came up with "Oh My PaPa" by Eddie Fisher 1954. To me it was the greatest gift of all time.
I've always loved this song because it does remind me so much of my Dad. I'm 70 and have met thousands of people, including Presidents and Ministers, and my Dad is still the greatest man I've ever known. I had them play this song at his funeral. There were 100's of people at the funeral and this song brought almost everyone there to tears.
He owned a bar so some might sat that he was no one of importance but if I listed the dignitaries that attended his funeral it would amaze some of you. The more jaded of you will probably say something insulting but I don't care, I just feel sorry for you and forgive you.
My Dad will be gone 9 years as of tomorrow and my Mother passed a little over 2 years ago. They both loved Eddie Fisher and played his music often when I was a little girl, and I too was taken by his beautiful voice and songs. Whenever I hear Oh My Papa, I think of my Grandpa Joe. I miss my family. Thank you this song.
I remember this song playing on an old radio in our kitchen. I was about 5 but I remember clearly being so emotionally affected and sitting crying at the kitchen table eating my soup and crackers. I kept thinking PAPA in the song was my own Daddy off in France on military deployment in 1953-55. it still brings a tear to my eye. thanks for posting. RIP Daddy, this still reminds me of you. Love you Eddie and Dad.
