I always loved King George, but thanks to mad men, I got to hear this song, as always George kills it.

George!!  What a classic!  I've thanked you before, but I'm doing it again.  Kudos, "Mad Men"

This was used as a closing credit for Season 2 episode 13 of MADMEN. The song was recorded in 1957 while he was in his early years with MERCURY records. It was thought of in 1957 as a "real hillbilly gospel tune."

There are at least three different recorded versions of this song; this one is not on the album shown in the picture. But they are all good!

....brilliant ...this is the young raw George Jones version from the early 50's ....hollers like Hank...can't get any better...but did...and the're all exceptional....

Never seen madmen, but I'm glad they used one of my favorite songs by George -- he was the man...

I see Christian pilgrims So redeemed from sin Called out of darkness A new life to begin Were you ever in the valley When the way is dark and dim? Did you ever drink the cup Of loneliness with Him? Did you ever have them laugh at you And say, it was a fake? The stand that you so boldly For the Lord did take Did you ever have them mock at you And laugh in ways quite grim? Did you ever drink the cup Of loneliness with Him? Did you ever try to preach Then old fashioned pray? And even when you did it That did not seem a way And you lost all courage Then lost all you vim. Did you ever drink the cup Of loneliness with him? All my friends 'tis bitter sweet While here on earthly sod To follow in the footsteps That our dear Savior trod To suffer with the Savior And when the way is dark and dim To think of the bitter cup Of loneliness with Him

Song hit me like a hammer. Thought it was Hank Williams but the voice wasn't his. What a style it really moved. Miss this style in Church as the modern Christian Rock is boring and sounds the same to me ah well what do I know I'm old lol
