RIP Glen. You were a great entertainer, generously showcasing songwriters like Jimmy Webb and John Hartford among so many others. Thank you, gentle sir.
Hands down, Glen's finest vocsal, ever. He really stretched himself doing this vocal, originally meant for DW on the Today album. Just an awesome vocal!! Wolfsky9
in fact this is early signs of Brian Wilson preparing the sound and the mood of what would become the 1966 album Pet Sounds. backing vocals are by the highly known The Honeys, a three girls group of which Marilyn Rovell was Brian's wife. Brian co-wrote this tune with Russ Titelman, who also participated with Brian Wilson in his 1988 solo come back album.
Do you hear Brian Wilson exclaim: "Awesome!" at 2:22 ?
Yes, it's on the original Glen recording that way, too.
And yes, that arrangement IS awesome. Brian understood some things at a very young age that it takes most arrangers years to understand.
Great song and beautiful arrangement. This performance should make a Glen Campbell fan out of anyone who loves good music.
Superior sound on this video as well!
