You wouldn’t read the letter that I wrote you you told me not to call you on
the phone
But there’s something that I just got to tell you
So I wrote it in the words of this song
I didn’t know God made honky tonk angels I might have known you’d never make a
wife
You gave up the only one who ever loved you and went back to the wild side of
life
The glamour of the gay night life has lured you
To the places where the wine and liquor flow
Where you wait to be anybody’s baby and forget the truest love you’ll ever know
I didn’t know God made…
Had to listen to some real country music to get my head right after watching the ACM Show tonight. Comparing Jason Aldean to Hank Williams ? Give me a break
This is one of these old songs that you hear and it sticks in your mind forever. I hum it and sing it to myself all the time. It gets stuck in your mind. A really good Country Song!
Gosh Hank was sure a great entertainer. Smart man too, because he went to Yale. Can't remember the the name of bar in Fort Worth where I met him a few times. I heard he had his funeral there. Anybody know the place I'm talking about? His band was better than the band of Bob Wills by quite a bit-The Brazos Valley Boys. Best country band in Nation for 14 or 15 years. Thanks for putting this up.
Hank sang and talked Waco singing and talking. He couldn't help it. He was born in Waco. My senior year in college, he came to Austin College in Sherman for a fraternity dance. After the dance he invited me to fly home to Waco from Sherman on his plane. You know I didn't say no. I had to hitch-hike back to Sherman on Sunday sice I left my car in Sherman. Years later, when he knew he was dying, he did a farewell show in Waco. I was there. He and I visited for a short while about that bumpy flight. What a good and decent man; what a musician. They don't make'em like Hank Thompson anymore. I am going to see that there is a memorial statue of Hank down by the Brazos River in Waco. If we can ever get a performing arts center and music hall built in Waco, I'm gonna fight to see it is named after Hank..or at least one of the venues in the center has Hank's name on it...
Of all the Hanks, [Williams, Snow, Penny, Garland, etc., This is the genuine article. his enunciation and style is unique and will never grow old.I Like them all but Hank Thompson is the epitome of country music
In 20 years time people will not even remember Justin Bieber an his like. However Hank Thompson and those like him will always be remembered for great singers they were.
90th BIRTH ANNIVERSARY TODAY!!!
HANK THOMPSON
(September 3, 1925 – November 6, 2007)
He was an American country music entertainer whose career spanned seven decades.
I know Hank was from Waco as we were friends since 1969. Hank's last performance was on October 8, 2007, in his birthplace of Waco. A mutual friend said that he passed at his home in Keller (a suburb of Fort Worth) on November 6th. Hank requested that no funeral be held, but on November 14, a "celebration of life," took place at Billy Bob's Texas, a Fort Worth nightclub. There was a traditional military graveside ceremony for Hank on the day of his burial at Waco Memorial Park, Waco, Texas.
