This is fantastic, and as only Mr. Mabern could do. I have known Harold for quite a while and have performed with him and have heard him playing many times and I can honestly say that he is playing the best right now and gets better every minute and every day!! His playing is incredible, and his way of orchestrating is his own and yet I can hear some things in there that are reminiscent of some of both of our favorite piano players like Ahmad Jamal, Erroll Garner and Phineas Newborn Jr. Harold Mabern is one of the greatest of all the piano players then and now and he continues to blow me away every time I hear him play or get the opportunity to play with him.
I played with him on one particular time and during a solo I hit a wrong note, and instantly Harold played a chord that made it right! Nothing else to say.
Mr. Maburn is truly a vet of the jazz world. I love his style and his talent and personally cannot get enough of his music. Thank God for wonderful contribution to the industry. Can someone please tell me where I can locate the song by him called "To You". Thanks, and God Bless u.
It’s uncanny he looks the same as when he was playing with Wes Montgomery in the black and white video from the early sixties and he’s playing incredibly
"Harold Mabern Jr.’s soul departed last night, but his spirit remains within everyone he encountered. I never heard him speak an unkind word about another person. He treated me as a peer, although that was far from the truth. Last night, I extended my tribute, but now, I’ve had more time to reflect, appreciate, and improve. Mabes left us more than just a musical legacy - he left a legacy of beauty and integrity.
God bless you, Mr. Mabern. You were one of a kind." Taken form Eric Reed Facebook post 21/09/2019
Thanks for uploading this jewel, probably the best piano rendition i have heard of this beautiful tune. Harold Mabern have played with the big cats of the jazz, and is still playing pure quality at his 78 yo. Just amaizing. A doubt: ¿Who is the guy on the wall picture on 3:54?
What an honor to see Harold Mabern recently in NYC (doing 2 shows a night). WOW. 79 years old and the finger speed of a 25 year old! He's SO CREATIVE. Never a dull minute when you listen to him at the keyboard. Great evening.
