And probably know nothing of what an inspiring, committed, passionate geezer Ian Dury was. Whether you like the music or not, the man himself leaves a huge hole in the world.
I come awake with a gift for womankind
You're still asleep but the gift don't seem to mind
Rise on this occasion, halfway up your back
Sliding down your body, touching your behind.
You look so self-possessed
I won't disturb your rest
It's lovely when you're sleeping
But wide awake is best.
Wake up and make love with me, wake up and make love
Wake up and make love with me
I don't want to make you, I'll let the fancy take you
And you'll wake up and make love.
You come awake in a horny morning mood
And have a proper wriggle in the naughty naked nude
Roll against my body, get me where you want me
What happens next is private, it's also very rude.
I'll go and get the post
And make some tea and toast
You have a lover's sleep, love
It's me that needs it most.
Wake up and make love with me, wake up and make love
Wake up and make love with me
I don't want to make you, I'll let the fancy take you
And you'll wake up and make love.
Wake up and make love with me, wake up and make love
Wake up and make love with me, wake up and make love
Wake up
Wake up
Wake up
Wake up.
The first time I heard this song, my friend and I were backpacking through Europe in 1978 and we were in a club in Amsterdam. Loved it immediately. The English guy we were with told me who sang it and I thought he said Injury and the Blockheads. I am sure they thought i was a stupid American asking for Injury at the record store.. Great memories.
My dad was in a Reggae band called Matumbi back in the late 70's early 80's in UK, and he use to tour the whole of England and Europe, and he used to take me and my brother to some of the bands shows, Ian Dury & the Blockheads was one of the bands....Loved some of the songs from Ian Dury even when i was young. They most definitely have a good feeling to there music.. Bless Up!
