Someone- I’m searching for someone who’ll be true, who’ll change My life of blue
Into a dream of golden rainbows, where are you?
It seems I’ve been searching, searching more than just one lifetime
My heart is a magnet all for you, I’ll know you when I see you
Within my heart is carved a sculpture of your love
Life is worth less than nothing without love. Love is the force from Which all
beings live
Don’t you see? It’s the purpose of living to love and be loved again And again
Where are you? My heart cries for you. My eyes long to see you. My Soul is all
for you
Oh, where are you, someone?
I had no idea this existed, this strange combination of John McLaughlin and James Taylor. Unfortunately James Taylor is not in good vocal form here--his limited vocal ability has never allowed him to sing just anything--and John McLaughlin is not much of a lyricist.
I suppose there was a foreshadowing of this duet in a way, though. A group called section opened for the Mahavishnu Orchestra at the Mississippi River Festival in the summer of 1973. Section was essentially James Taylor's band without James Taylor and Carole King.
I wish JM would go back to his acoustic guitar with Shakti. God, I miss that Shakti guitar. One of my all time favorite acoustic guitars. He did so much great things with that instrument. I would LOVE to hear him also do some high resolution live studio recordings. Maybe he will hook up with Blue Coast Records, and get his old analog recordings remastered with HD Tracks. They are doing some nice remasters. They have BC's Spectrum album in 24/96 that sounds phenomenal. Put a bug in his ear.
Gorgeous...i had heard, a long time ago, that they were good friends...nothing odd with that...it is great to see evidence of that...love it...!!!!!!!...
This is one of my favorite songs on the album but I did like the entire record as a whole & would listen to it often in 1973. 'Someone' has many unpredictable twists & turns and John's guitar playing was fantastic. Did McLaughlin ever perform this song on one of his albums or live?
All the things that are almost void from pop music are in this song... virtuosic flurries, altered dominants, clever chromaticism, dynamics, gorgeous suspended chords.... thank you john!
How did the two decide to work together, even though they shared the same manager? I can't figure that one out. Not to say there's anything wrong with that. It's just an odd couple, if you will...
