I will always remember Jesse Winchester as I saw him, many times, at the Edgewater Hotel in Pointe Claire, Quebec back in the early 1970s… the no frills songster.

I never knew much of this man, other than some of his songs were covered by musicians/bands that I admire. One night a few years ago as I was driving home, I tuned into Mountain Stage, and heard Jesse preforming Little Glass of Wine...it was one of those transcendent moments that, if you are lucky, comes along once and awhile. This song settled down over me and worked its way into my heart and mind. Beautiful, as only music can be.
Thank you for this lovely comment. And yes this is one of my favorites. It is a powerful song that at first seems like a trivial moment and then it grabs you as the essence of living
Holly, I sure hope you got the chance to see him. I saw him dozens of times since 1975 in Montreal, the last time being in Nov. '13. Every time was a treasure. Another page turned. Remembering him tonight.
One of the reasons I took up the guitar two years ago. One of the first two songs of his I taught myself. Little Glass of Wine and My Songbird. Performing them both at my first gig this Saturday. The man is a treasure.
you know what, after a performance like that, I would wait longer to applaud. What a genius - uh-huh, go get another, little, glass, he finally recommends - a pathetic fallacy - as real about drinking as any George Jones masterpiece
I was fortunate to see Jesse in concert at a few sweet venues over the years. His gentleness and quiet intensity touched my wife and me on levels few performers could. It was just him and his quitar. When my children were young I would sing his song"Lay Down the burden of you heart" to them as they fell asleep.
I simply love his humorous intro as much as his wonderful songs. Thank-you for this video so we can continue to experience his charm, mirth, and everything we always loved about Jesse.
