My gdad passed away today in the morning and he told me in his death bed this is his favorite song and he said it remeinded him of me i gave it a listen and it is as if he was singing this to me and wrote it persifically just for me and whenever this song is playing i will remember him. Every time I hear Jim I'm transported back to a time in life I was actually happy when I was a kid and the good life with great parents that i loved more than anything and miss them more today then ever and would love to tell them ...you were right...

This was played at my Dad's funeral he always sang this song.

I say this without any exaggeration: Jim Reeves never sang a song I didn't like. He was a favorite of mine as a kid growing up back in the 1950s and 60s. The very first Jim Reeves song I fell in love with was "He'll Have to Go" - I think around 1957 (give or take a year). From that time on, I must have bought 7 or 8 of his albums and still love the sound of his voice just as much now at age 72 as I did back then. To say Jim Reeves was an outstanding vocalist would indeed be an understatement.

I am 73 years old, and was around 20 years old, stationed at the U.S. Naval Pacific Missle Range base at Point Mugu, California, when a group of us were heading east early one morning on a camping trip and as the dawn broke an announcement came over the radio about Jim Reeves' plane crash. Not the best way to begin to one's day! When I got out of the service 4 years later and was driving a taxi part time in my hometown of Dallas, Texas, a fellow driver related how he once picked up a fare at the airport, a woman who wanted to visit the grave of Jim, with his beloved Collie "Cheyenne," buried beside him, located in Carthage. It was early in the morning before they reached the environs of Jim's monument, and they were tired and got lost. Then, suddenly, pulling around the corner of a darkened rural road, the cab's headlights hit directly on the statue of Jim. The driver still remembers that woman's awe at discovering Jim's grave in such a dramatic way. But the most touching moment was when she got out of the taxi and gave notice to the large replica in stone of one of Jim's 45rpm hit singles, and where the space was for the producer beneath the title was: "Producer: GOD."
