Jimmy, Kenny Burrell and Stanley Turrentine complemented each other perfectly during the years they recorded together.
Jimmy's bass lines on this track perfectly fit the title of the album. They sound like the hum of a jazz-tuned diesel engine; the lead diesel of the Midnight Special.
I grew up listening to music like this and this was one of my parent's all time favorites. Their gone now but this sounds good like it did back when it was new. We had the 8-Track. A lot of y'all might not know about that. Lol
This is a Holy (original meaning of this word is Wilderness)! The rhythm, the beat, the musical exchanges is beyond Excellent. .I am at 'Church' in the Natural Wilderness of Sacred Sound that 'Drives' me to Love and Respect Nature, the Natural Agenda, Clean Waters; refreshing and vital to Sacred Life! This Sound carries in the Divine Winds that blow through me and tantalize my Soul! This 'Natural Church' keeps one ALWAYS coming back! The Perfectly Timed Percussion keeps one 'Holy Spirit' Moving and thus 'Praying' by Deed rather than plain verbal talk! This Sacred Sound is MOVING liken to this Divine and Sacred Mother Earth, the Sacred Milky Way to this never ending Divine and Sacred Universe! Many Great Musicians like Jimmy Smith played caught in the money/business traps of Music..Whatever/However I ALWAYS heard a Sacred Divine Sermon in this KING'S GREAT MUSICAL TALENTS! I can hear the 'Holy Hand Clappings' of the Soulful Perfectly Timed Percussion. .AMU (changed vowel from 'E' to the letter 'U') reads AMUN...
Jimmy Smith plays the keyboard like no one else. He has a unique style none else can duplicate. He's quite exquisite and accomplished. Incredible jazz keyboard artist.
