This great song is about where my paternal grandmother and my dad lived out their final days. I used to visit Carmel from time to time when I was a little girl. Joe Sample really must've put tons of effort into this album and its title track. Godspeed, Joe.
RIP, my friend. I had the privilege of seeing you a few times at the Bluenote in NYC, and a few more times in Philadelphia. There will never be another one like you.
When I bought my new audio equipment in 1978 or '79, this one of the first albums that I bought to play on my system---the other was Bill Evans w/ Toots.
EACH TIME I HEAR THIS ONE, THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING NEW I FOUND IN IT. A VERY INTERESTING HYBRID BETWEEN POPULAR AND CLASSICAL MUSIC. JOE SAMPLE DELIVERS ALL THE EMOTIONS: FROM FORMAL TO IMPATIENT AND EXPLOSION, AND BACK TO REFINED AGAIN. PRICELESS.
The piece that lifts my spirit and perfectly paints the picture of the beautiful Carmel. Live on Mr. Sample. You're an awesome artist that has inspired an entire generation.
