On the M*A*S*H episode "Your Hit Parade") the tune is played over the public announcement system during a particularly grueling session in the operating room. B.J. Hunnicutt wrongly identified it as "The Musical Clock."[

This was the theme of "The Late Show" movies on NYC TV back in the '50s (11PM). Then at 1AM, "The Late, Late Show".

When I was a kid, after the late show movie was over where they used this theme, they played the National Anthem and the TV channel when off the air. Usually about 1 or 2 a.m.

This was put on a loop when the local tv station was having 'technical difficulties' - - for hours -- two or three times every other day. Question was what music would I use to kill zombies by. -- Came here to verify I had the name right.

I heard this song once as a child. But somehow it got so embedded into my head that every time I woke up in the morning I started humming it. I did this for years, having no idea what the song was called or anything. And now I've found it!

I suffered from terrible insomnia as a child. Fortunately for me I grew up in New York City and I could lie in my bed and watch all those great old movies on the Late Show and the Late Late Show. I knew Barbara Stanwyck's entire filmography by the time I made fifth grade!

As a child in the 50's, I remember The Late Show where my dad let me stay up late . We watched a lot of war films together. One I remember distinctively. Operation Burma with Eroll Flynn! This song always make me think of those wonderful times!
