From a time when it probably wasn't acceptable/fashionable to be a female rock n roll singer, shame because their were some truly great female rocking singers from that time, Lillian was a truly unappreciated rocker who should have been far better known.
Lillian Briggs was a close friend of Lucille Ball. I saw and heard Ella Fitzgerald sing the song in a "Jazz at the Philharmonic" tour and she reveled in it.
Came her from seeing her on "What's My Line?" where she appeared as Arlene Francis' trombone teacher.
She's FANTASTIC! She should've been huge! That's the fickle music market for you...
I found the 78 RPM record yesterday at a local junkshop. They had a small box with some early jazz and vocal stuff mostly in near new condition at €1 each. I took 12 of them including this one. Spunds great!!!
I never heard of this lady till I stumbled upon her image on Google.... it’s unusual to see a lady playing a trombone so it peaked my interest ... I have to tell you... I’m a new fan! I was surprised to see that she sings and plays too... really awesome sound .... I wonder why she’s not as well known as say, Little Richard or Elvis or Pattie Page. Certainly a very big big talent.
