In 1962 when this song came out, I was an apprentice and I went down to a cafe on the industrial estate where our factory was. As I went into the cafe 'The locomotion' was playing on the jukebox and about 20 young girls in their companies factory jackets were doing the locomotion. Every body was smiling in the cafe, it is such a vivid happy memory that comes to me every time I hear this great old song.
John, you won't see that again in our lifetime. I love the Black female singers and groups of the sixties. The sixties and seventies were probably the greatest two decades of all time. If you lived it...you know what I mean.
I was standing on a balcony over the gym floor while the sock hop was going on. This song was playing and a pretty girl I barely knew was dancing to it. I was 16. That girl and I have been married 50 years.
