One month later - a correction.
Checker 764, 'Mean Old World'/'Sad Hours' was the follow up to 'Juke'/'Can't Hold Out Much Longer' and Checker 767, 'Don't Have To Hunt No More'/'Tonight with a Fool' was originally intended to follow that single.
As you can hear this is a precursor to 'Off The Wall' but I listen to this here far more often than that there, fine though it was and is....
Happy New Year!
Yup - KING of the amplified mouth harp players. "Horn" technique and sound. One of his classics. Get the box set of everything he ever cut for Chess/Checker plus other. And he was a fine guitar player too.
What a beautiful sound. Paul Butterfield is my main man but it's easy to tell that Paul listened to Walter.
It's a little difficult to grasp that this was recorded in 1953.
Well said,droverboy1 - it's the reason I love him too!
This record is a curio; it was designated as the follow up to 'Juke' but then withdrawn from release. It's hard to understand why, 'cause, like most of Walter's stuff, it's as good as it gets.
Thank God the master tape of this and the other side of the (non) single, 'Tonight With A Fool', another gem, survived.
Ah, this music is so great...
Best wishes
