Jack White clearly listened very carefully to The Blasters version before covering this great Rudy Toombs song. Rudy was murdered by thieves, Willie John died in prison...fortunately Phil Alvin and Jack White are still around
I love the bluesy hollow sound of this version, however I also agree that Jack White DEFINITELY did this song justice. I love modern covers of 50's R&B!
LWJ was Motown before Motown existed in Detroit. He laid the ground work in its local community for what became Motown. I have an 81 year old guitar player (that has worked many gigs in my own band) that worked in LWJ's band back in the mid 1950's. I've heard plenty of great first hand stories.
