Grew up just South of NOLA. Had my first apartment there. What an incredible city! Do I miss it? Only everyday. All that makes the city amazing gets into your system. I will forever think of NOLA as home. Even named my dog Nola. It gets into your blood and is always a huge part of you. Make trips home every time we can. Forget Bourbon Street and the tourist traps. The city offers so much more. The food, the architecture, the people and the atmosphere and attitude and it's history. Can move me away, but will never take the city out of me.
I moved there in at 19...in 1970. The music was transforming. Pete Fountain , Al Hurt, Fats Domino, and Professor Longhair. I saw some greats. Just to name a few of the older ones. I often went to Preservation Hall and always took '
guests there. Most said it was the highlight of the French Quarter
Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans
And miss it each night and day
I know I'm not wrong this feeling's gettin' stronger
The longer, I stay away
Miss them moss covered vines the tall sugar pines
Where mockin' birds used to sing
And I'd like to see that lazy Mississippi hurryin' into spring
The moonlight on the bayou a creole tune that fills the air
I dream about magnolias in bloom and I'm wishin' I was there
Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans
When that's where you left your heart
And there's one thing more I miss the one I care for
More than I miss New Orleans
The moonlight on the bayou a creole tune that fills the air
I dream about magnolias in bloom and I'm wishin' I was there
Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans
When that's where you left your heart
And there's one thing more I miss the one I care for
More more than I miss New Orleans
My grandfather who was born in New Orleans died listening to this song Thursday at 7:30 this song you can't fathom how this feels to listen to this I need some whiskey...
Man, I love Louis, I don't how he could get that sound, I know it can't all be the technology, I can't sound like that with a mute, but I dig that style!
These past few days got me in the most longing feeling for New Orleans. I've been practicing my horn intensely every day. I made gumbo last night, and i've been looking up everything New Orleans related. I think i know what Louis means.
There's a very good reason why we're consistently rated the happiest people in the USA in spite of the beatings we constantly take from Mother Nature (including this one). She can beat us all she wants (and she does) but she will never defeat us. I'm a Bywater New Orleanian who's been away on "vacation" for over a week and the homesickness is killing me already. Merci bon Dieu pour la Louisiane.
