Being from the south we all have that one old black man in our lives who always taught us even when we didnt understand what or why. I listen to this and think, now that im older, how lucky i truly was. The stigma of race somehow fimds its way south but ill tell you what, the most racist people ive ever met were north of the Mason Dixon line.

Great example of children not knowing what racism is. He didn't look at him as a black man. He looked at him as a wise elder that could pass on a little knowledge.

I'm mixed. Mom's white and Dad's black. I first found this song when I was about 14-15 years old by hanging out with some good ol boys. And to this day it is still probably one of my favorite songs of all time. Just enjoy the music people. And for those who claim its racist you have to remember that things were quite a bit different 40 years ago. Granted this song is not racist at all, its more of an homage to some of the finest black guitar players in American blues history. Claude H. "Papa" Hammer, Rufus "Tee-Tot" Payne, Robert Johnson and Shorty Medlocke the grandfather of Rickey Medlocke. Also give me southern rock any day of the week over that New Country bullshit now a days.

He's a young southern white man paying homage to a great blues guitarist. It has nothing to do with race. If you aren't from the deep south and country-it might be difficult to understand. This is the way it is.

It's a real shame that some of these guys died so early. Like if you agree

''Cause Curtis Lowe was the finest picker to ever play the blues" for some reason that line always puts tears in my eyes.
