I don t want to hear another word spoken, i can see you with both eyes closed in the dark
that i can see right through
Like this record, i want to look around and know
i don t want to hear another word spoken
you come and go
It s the rhythm of the blues, you come and go
I can listen with my heart, i want a place to call my own
Like the rhythm of the blues, on some pretence paper-thin
where you have never been
I can listen with my heart, like the rhythm of the blues, i don t want to see another tear shed
you won t be coming back again
I want a place to call my own, i want a place to call my own
I walk along these streets of home, that i can see right through
I can see you with both eyes closed in the dark, like the rhythm of the blues, i can see you with both eyes closed in the dark
Where you have never been, you come and go
on some pretence paper-thin
sleep will come in just a while
I don t want to hear another word spoken, that i can see right through
i walk along these streets of home
In the sound of my own footsteps on the avenues, lonely looks as bad on me
you won t be coming back again
To the rhythm of the blues, i don t want to see another tear shed
Don t want to hear, i don t want to hear another word spoken, i can hear the rain come down
in the sound of my own footsteps on the avenues
I don t want to hear another word spoken, don t want to hear, it s the rhythm of the blues
Like the rhythm of the blues, to the rhythm of the blues
You come and go, lonely looks as bad on me
to the rhythm of the blues
This is one of my most favorite songs I have ever heard. Being from Oregon rain and lost loves seemed to be the pattern of my life... This song is my heart...
I carry a small slip of paper that I have used to accumulate my own personal list of the 10 best songs ever written. I do not put entries on the list lightly, so there are so far only 4 entries on it. This is one of them.
I bought a CD at a garage sale, Mary Chapin Carpenter. From the moment I heard this song, I was in Love, with her, her music, her poetry. She is absolutely brillant.
This was the song that made me Chapin's fan forever. I so deeply empathize with her lyrics. I'm disappointed that she still does not have mainstream success, but I am glad she had success with the general public at all. I am so thankful that Nashville thought highly enough of her to elect her to the Nashville Songwriter's Hall of Fame. So richly deserved.
Used to go see her at the twist and shout in Bethesda Md before she made it big, what a treat that was, she deserves all her fame as one of Americas premier songwriters, it was songs like this that were the key for that, Her guitar work along with John Jennings were as good as it can be, Hats off for the hometown girl..,
