The context in which MC5 existed was a snapshot of the rage of the later 60s. MC5 was considered to be "degenerate" by J. Edgar Hoover, who also went wild over its support of the White Panther Party. My dad seized and destroyed two copies of this album - something about it made his brain "snap"....
Back in 68 and 69, these guys owned Michigan. They were your parent's and society's worst nightmare. There was nothing like waiting for my parents to go out and sneaking down to the basement and playing the air guitar to this tune on 10.
My grand kids have been raiding my record collection and found this album. When they visit, they keep playing it over and over, pissing their parents (my kids) off just like I pissed mine off. Kick 'em out! Yeah!
I was working on my chopper when I first heard it (back in 1969). I told my buddy, "This is like Blue Cheer's version of 'Summertime Blues' -- it's like a squadron of B-17s flying just over your head." This one is still bruisin'!
