I love Minnie's voice better than any other female blues singer I've heard! I'm not claiming she's better than any one else, just that her voice appeals to me the most.
By good fortune, my fave living female singer, Hope Sandoval (of Mazzy Star), loves Memphis Minnie & has covered two MM songs. Who else but Hope could do so much justice to MM songs? No one, imo!
I think the last steam engines in passenger service ran on some rural line in Virginia or West Virginia in the late 1950s. I know that where I live, in New York, the Long Island Rail Road used steam engines until 1955.I think some freight railroads might have used them into the early 1960s.
The last of those steam engines went out of service in the 1950s didn't they? Thanks for your comment on Minnie, sounds like you really lived her life and times.
lol as i listened to the song....just read (or in this cas listent) between the lines. oh memphis u bad girl....she does look nice in several of these photos.
This is so good you totally forget the few little scratches at the start .
I found a 78 by Minnie about 15 years ago, and never heard anything else she did.
She made consistency good records!
Thanks!
