This should have been a number one hit! The DJ,S and record companies ,don,t promote good artists, like this great group. I,ve alwayys loved this song back in 69, when first came out. Napoleon. Toussaint

I just imagine Dilla finding this amazing sample, and completely knowing that this is going to be the final track he samples in his life.  Truly amazing sample to an amazing track to finish an amazing album by an amazing guy.  RIP J Dee

When I die I hope to be A better man than you thought I'd be It's been hard to make you see What kind of man I'm tryin' to be All I ask for you to try To understand what it means to me It's not hard to understand why you Get discouraged all the time I keep tryin' not to worry, but I Can't help feelin' lost in you But I lo--o--o--o--ove you Love you And I need you Time goes by and you'll find That we'll achieve a love sublime When I die I hope to be A better man than you thought I'd be It's not hard to understand why you Get discouraged all the time I keep tryin' not to worry, but I Can't help feelin' lost in you 'Cause I love you and I want you 'Cause I got to, got to have you 'Cause I, 'cause I need you When I die I hope to be A better man than you thought I'd be

Fantastic record! Should've been a much bigger hit. Very ahead of its time. Surprised that Hall & Oates didn't re-do it!

One of the greatest hits of the magical year of 1969! It's a shame that Mother lode only had one big hit "When I Die" cause I really loved their sound!

A classic in every sense. Perfect harmony. Powerful words. I'm retired and have this song in my trunk of memories as I move into my later years, always dipping inside, pulling it out, and singing along with whatever voice I have left. Thank you, Motherlode.

For my husband, Ruben. When you passed away babe after 34 years of marriage, you were the man I knew you could be. You were everything I wanted in a man. I love you babe!!

I have been listening and watching Dilla archives all day. I ruptured my patella tendon so I am not able to do much. I am in a realm of emotions reflecting on my life and listening to Dilla's music which was extremely heart felt!!! I cannot stop crying just thinking about life in a sad and joyous way. RIB Dilla!!!!!!

I heard this song on the radio. I heard it before but couldn't remember any lyrics, I only had that awesome harmony sound stuck in my head. So I searched the radio station website for recently played but they didn't have it. So I messaged the radio station and told him it was an awesome Soul song with awesome harmonies sung by black guys. He replied back with the song...so here I am listening to it now.
