Love how Monch switches styles and pays homage to Kool G Rap in this iconic cut.

“I coming for you little girl, once inside I shattered ya world”...I been listening to this joint since a year after high school. I’m 28 years old now and this song still haunts me but can’t help but to listen to this. When Pharoahe Monch said that line? It broke my heart hearing that cause children have been struck in the crossfire of bullets. That whole line just have you sitting for a few mins...One bullet to the head can permanently take ya ass out of life

This is why Eminem called Monche ahead of his time and said his verses were "99.9% beyond every other MC." Another blistering lyrical onslaught is Percee P - Nowhere Near Simple from 1996. It's incredible too...

Hip hop today can’t come close to this masterpiece. In fact most of the stuff that’s called hip hop today is not hip hop at all... it’s commercial bs that sounds like Euro Dance music. Back to Stray Bullet. The flow and lyrics are killin it and using a sample of Donald Byrds 70’s track Wind Parade was pure genius

Another artist out of Queens, NY did a song with a similar premise to this one regarding a projectile's point of view: Nas. That track, though, featured the firearm itself and received a little more recognition due to Nas' notoriety and the promotion provided for the single's album. However, "Stray Bullet" served as the predecessor to (and blueprint for) "I Gave You Power". "Stress: The Extinction Agenda" by Pharoahe Monch (left) and Prince Po[etry] (right) was a classic ahead of it's time.

This was one of my favorite songs on this album. Wish these new jacks spit like this. This song was deep. Nas called it Hip Hop is dead.
