Ed Thigpen may be just one of the most underrated drummers ever. Man could that guy settle a groove in so sweet. I don't care what anyone says, maintaining a slow pulse is ALWAYS harder.

Every time I listen to these three, I end up crying, since they are no longer with us. I am sure that if God was not a jazz fan before, he is now. For my money, OP was the best piano player I have ever heard. Ray Brown is the reason why the bass was invented. Ed T fits in perfectly. Shortly before he died I had the great pleasure of meeting Ray Brown. He was as kind and gentlemanly as his playing was the best.

We played this at my fathers funeral as he and all the family are fans of Oscar, still brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it ......

Been listening to this for decades, not sure how many decades I have left to listen to it, but hope it's a few, because it's just so good to hear it, every time.

I like to think of it as almost a musical version of "I have a dream..."

I'm vexed. Never heard a piano sound like a full choir, like he does in the explosion towards the end. A firework of emotion in this piece.

I was lucky enough to see him in 1962.  I've never heard another pianist comparable to Oscar!

Oscar is from my hometown Montreal in Quebec. Such a talent and inspirstion.

Interesting that this wonderful composition, written by OP at the time of Selma Bridge and the death of Martin Luther King, should be the anthem at the inauguration of the 44th President of the United States. Sung by a choir of schoolchildren - perhaps the future is bright after all.
