I can understand where you are coming from. I was born in the late '70's and I often fantasize about what it would have been like to have been around in the romantic decade of the '50's and the early '60's. I can't imagine a world where everyone listened to great music.
I have always liked this song but now that I've heard it by this group for the first time this version is my favourite...Great upload, great music. More please and thanks
I forgot how many of their records made the charts - quite a few! I still have several of their Deluxe label 45's from back in the day. They really were one of the best, & most successful groups of the 50's.
i really wish i was alive in those years. just being alive would have been an honor, even if i were a tiny baby, just having breathed in air that at some point was filled with music so nice, simple, and sweet such as this, and later the beach boys. but no, i had to be born in the late 80's. damnit.
Classic! Love Otis Williams and this sound. This is the EXACT song that Elvis mentioned in a 1956 interview at the time he was catching a lot of hate & smoke from a lot of white folks for embracing & promoting black artists and black music.
He told the reporter "If people would just take the time to honestly listen to some of the artists & songs out there on the R&B charts, like 'Ivory Tower' at this time, they would see how beautiful and special this music is"
Basically he was saying come down off your high horse and just give it an honest listen.
Elvis knew what was up.
