I don't get whats supposed to be racist about speedy. He's a Mexican mouse who runs really fast. They say he is still quite popular in latin american countries even. I mean okay he drinks Tequilla so what? I never knew a single Italian American that was upset about a red wine reference or an Irishman who was upset about references to them drinking anything with alcohol in it.

This one I owe to my parents. They liked "novelty" songs. At a point where Pat Boone was moving away from pop or R&B covers, he heard this song by a local artist in South America and wanted to do a cover version of it. His manager advised him agaist it. He did it anyway. Itr became his BIGGEST hit!!! It made me smile to learn that Boone had better musical instincts than his manager. I've been listening to this since I was about 3 years old.
