Probably going to make the first positive comment on this video now after scrolling through the comments. I love The Who, I love the Sex Pistols - I love this cover! I grew up listening to both because my parents listened to both bands, as they were teens when punk came out, and when The Who's later albums were released... so, I have a lot of respect for both bands. This is amazing - thank you for uploading, and a big thanks to my parents who brought me up on this, rather than the 90s pop crap!

All the footage used here is from a Pistols documentary, and yes, in there was some Don Letts stuff. But to stop any future confusion, i'll address this in my descriptions.

That bloke in the union jack coat is indeed a very young Shane McGowan

You quite clearly have a problem with this band doing a Who song, so why would you go out of your way to listen to it. Stick to what you know best and everything should be fine.

This has to be the happiest punk video ever. Seriously, I watch it to cheer myself up sometimes. The Pistols, Siouxsie Sioux, Vivienne Westwood and Shane MacGowan all wrestling and jumping around in sheer musical energy, just having a good time.

Glen Matlock is to the SexPistols what Lemmy K. was at Motorhead: his soul !! Sid Vicious always counted for butter !!!!

Yeah it's been well documented of Sid's love for the band as a fan before joining them. There's a shot of him in another Pistols vid i've done, sitting with others at a table. There was quite a list of well knowners in amongst the crowds at Pistols gigs. Most of those are not here on camera though. But here there's Vivienne Westwood at 0:15 Siouxsie at 0:58 Punk legend Jordan at 1:50 and Shane MacGowan at 2:44 & could someone confirm if that's Dave Vanian at 2:39

Prefer the original pistols-much better raw sound, Sid turned it in to a farce and ultimately it cost him (and his bird) his 21 year old life

It is a top tune by The Who and I dig their version, but I do recall Pete Townsend to have said he loved this cover when he heard it.

There's a rock lore story that Mick Jagger once called Devo's version of "Satisfaction" better than the original. Then there's the story of Pete Townshend drunk out of his mind at a party exerting the Sex Pistols to "take over" (rock and roll); as anyone knows rock and roll in the 80's had lost much of it's identity. "Who are you? Who are you!", Pete was reported as screaming. The origins of punk can be tied directly to The Who. "My Generation" bears this out. So... Thank God for The Who.

I heard this one before the original one, and when I finally listened to the Who's version I wondered why it was so flat. It didn't have the anger or passion this cover has. Brilliant work, usually covers suck.

Townshend once ran into Lydon and Cook and apologized for becoming the Dinosaur rocker the Pistols were rebelling against. But to his delight they said to him "No not at all, we really like the 'oo."
