Queen Shirley; the 'ultimate balladeer'. This woman was and still 'is' a musical gift to all of us. And to have been blessed to have witnessed her gifts'; 'live'. Hmmmm.... that is still one of the blessed treasures of my life. Village Vanguard, early '90's....not a sound except her voice reverberating throughout the entire club. in 1957 i began going to jazz clubs in the english midlands cities. this is what we encountered then. i skipped rock n' roll because of this. if you learn music at this level early on it's hard to move away from it. i think shirley is one of the great talents of the 20th century (of which there were about 5). in this century 0 ! there's plenty of time left so lets hope there is a newer music form out there or that this may be expanded upon.
