Many have covered this song as it is one of the most beautiful sons written, but only a few have really done it justice. Donny Hathaway's may very well be the best. Mick Hucknall from Simply Red has the chops and that blue eyed soul talent that fits this song so well. You can really appreciate it when he sings it live. He really gets into it. This video does not do it justice.

In wondering how the name Simply Red came to be … I imagine a young singer, working dive bars going by the name ”Red”, who becomes agitated when the announcer is confused about the name of the performer. Red … red what … what kind of name is Red he asks. Finally he hears Simply Fu.. ing Red.
He omits the Fu..ing and introduces ……… Simply Red
