again Sparks are an iron fist in a velvet glove....the overall sound is pure pop but their lyrics pack a powerful punch (when it`s christmas he has to stay home and be the family man )

I like this tune! It's got such a catchy hook, that you can't resist banging it out on the piano (for those who can play,that is.) And it's pretty fun! Another good anti-Christmas song to add to the mix!

Music is waaaaaaaaaaaaay ahead of its time. I would have expected to hear this on an early Strokes album or something by Bloc Party. Goes to show you how "original" these newer bands are.

Haven't heard this song in over forty years, but I remember its' bitter sentiments all too
clearly. Clearly a big influence on a young Stephen Morrissey who would up the ante with
The Smiths a decade later. I also hear an influence on XTC, another great UK band who
have been sadly overlooked.
Hard to believe that Sparks had big hits with such witty lyrics. Confirmation that fine pop music existed BC, ( Before Cowell...)

Played this album and Propaganda and Indiscreet to death as a teen was a Sparks fanatic when a teen ...still love them but I'd say the Dinky Diamond period my fave and this band at the time best songs best albums followed Sparks all my life yet nothing beats their early albums will weird eccentric stuff and sound also Woofer and Sparks debut albums love the band to and all it's regular Sparks weirdness I do reviews oddly to I like unique sounds and bands bands were very much that especially their first 5 albums
